Wille Marlowe Visual Poem

Willie Marlowe is a contemporary artist, a painter and visual poet whose work has been shown across the US and internationally. Her work has been supported by numerous New York state grants and is in museum, university, corporate, and private collections. She has been an invited visiting artist in Ireland, Italy, Barbados, and Russia. She has had European Artist Residencies in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, the Netherlands, and Ireland. Known for her intimate acrylic paintings on paper, she creates luminous surfaces using an intense palette with successive layers of translucent glazes.

Notable solo shows include Paintings on Paper, National Association of Women Artists, NYC; Paintings of Singular Delights, Hallspace Gallery, Boston; Tropical Topics, Fondo del Sol Visual Arts Center, Washington, DC; the Wexford Arts Centre, Ireland; the Mint Museum, Charlotte, NC; the Arkell Museum, Canajoharie, NY; and in Albany at Opalka Gallery, Russell Sage College, and Albany Center Gallery. Numerous invitational and group shows include Archivo Emily Harvey, Venice; England & Company, London; Artemisia Gallery, Chicago; Galerie Doxa, Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic; and in New York City, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Painting Center, Ceres Gallery, Bernice Steinbaum Gallery, A.I.R. Gallery, the Clocktower Gallery, and El Barrio Artspace.

She is now a professor emerita at Russell Sage College and paints full-time in her studio in Albany, New York.
